There are 2 explanations of how the word “Oscar” was first used to describe the trophy that is given out to the winners. One is actress Bette Davis, once the president of the Academy, named the trophy “Oscar” after her husband, Oscar Nelson. Another is the Academy’s chief secretary Margaret Herrick called the statue Oscar, because it looked like her Uncle Oscar.
為什麼奧斯卡金像獎要被稱為「奧斯卡」呢？
關於「奧斯卡」這名字第一次被用來稱呼頒贈給得獎人的獎盃的由來，有兩種不同的說法。其中一種說法是女演員貝蒂·戴維斯曾任美國電影藝術與科學學院主席，她以丈夫的名字奧斯卡‧尼爾森為獎盃命名。另一種說法是美國電影藝術與科學學院秘書長瑪格麗特‧赫瑞克首次稱呼小金像「奧斯卡」，因為看起來實在是很像她的叔叔奧斯卡。
